Cae Gwyn Farm & Nature Reserve

The barn conversion (completed in December 2005) - in which our en-suite B&B rooms are located - is a part of the range of traditional stone buildings in the farmyard, which is over 200 years old. This barn conversion has been a part of our big project since we came to the farm, and the accommodation is sympathetically converted and furnished to a high standard, utilising its original features as much as possible.

We use organically grown, fairly traded and locally available produce as much as possible for our farmhouse continental breakfast, and drinking water at Cae Gwyn is sourced from our own mountain spring.

Our guests are invited to walk freely around our 190 acre farm and nature reserve - designated SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) for its rare fauna, flora and aquatic life. Walking itineraries around Cae Gwyn available.

There are a few pushchairable walks on and around the farm, and as parents of a young child ourselves, these walks have been tried and tested by ourselves so please ask us for more details about these routes.

There is an abundance of natural as well as cultural activities and opportunities around and near Cae Gwyn all year round. There are numerous footpaths in the mountains, including the Cambrian Way and Precipice Walk, and mountain biking tracks in the Coed-y-Brenin forest. You can also enjoy trekking along the Mawddach river and estuary, driving on the coastal road along miles of white sandy beach of the Barmouth coastline, exploring nearby RSPB sanctuaries or visiting ancient castles and slate caverns. River/lake/sea fishing, wind-surfing, climbing, bird-watching, golfing, pony trekking/horse riding, canoeing, water-rafting, pottery workshops, are also some of many activities to be found in the near vicinity of Cae Gwyn. In summer Cae Gwyn Farm is full of rare and unusual wild flowers and plants, including colonies of wild Orchids, the delicate Ragged Robin, floating water-plantain, bog pimpernel and the insect eating plant Sundew.
